Probing

Today we did probing! First we practiced on dexter as usual. Then we did it on each other. I realized after a while that if you have a relaxed grip it's a lot easier to tell where the bottom of the sulcus/pocket is. My goal is to practice turning all the instruments, explorer mirror and probe. I have a hard time rolling them around. Today I think I did pretty well. Me and my partner communicated really well to help each other learn. I like that!! Bye

More exploring

Today we did exploring on the typodont then on eachother. I realized I've been practicing wrong. Angie pointed out to me that exploring is totally with the tip of the explorer. I am going to go home and practice the RIGHT way. Hopefuly I'll get better.

Hand on explorer!

Today we did actual exploring! First we did it with dexter's. That helped a lot to work on what we will do for real patients. I usually practice at home on my typodont too. It helps a lot. After we did exploring on dexter we did it on each other. It's a little scary to do. But it's really fun to actually be doing hand on instrumentation. My goal is to break down my intra-oral exam PE into a process that I can understand more. (I didn't get that goal done last time) I should write it in my planner because then I know I'll get it done! Well... cya!

Intra-oral exams

Today we learned how to do intr-oral examinations. We first learned a lot about the anatomy of the mouth. Then we practiced giving extra-oral and intra-oral exams. I think today went well. My goal is to write out a logical sequence of my own personal routine for an intra-oral exam. That way it will be less likely that I skip a step and I will be time efficient! :)

Extra oral exam

Today was the funniest day ever!! I hope a lot of you girls read this. So I did everything I was supposed to do and Monica and I were practicing our positioning and fulcrums. So Monica's talking me through everything right... Well I pull my instruments to think about something for I"m not kidding, five seconds. So I figure it out and ask Monica to open her mouth. "Hey Monica can you open for me... MOnica can you open for me. Head tilts sideways mouth closes more then Monica jumps out of her chair and says.. "WHoa, sorry!" SHE FELL ASLEEP!! Can you believe it I'm talking ot her one second working on her teeth the next she's passed out in my chair. I haven't figured out if that's a good or bad thing yet. So I hope you all get a good laugh out of this! My goal for next time is to be more patient involved to prevent them from falling asleep.

Vitals!

Today in clinic we learned how to take vital signs. I think it went pretty well. It's not hard, but it's a little tricky to hear the right sounds for taking blood pressure. We also practced positioning. I'm getting better, but still need practice. I passed of my PE for next time. I'm trying to stay ahead just incase something goes wrong. I think things are getting better. My goal is still to come prepared for class having already practiced what we're learning for the day. BYE!!

Clinic Day 3

Today we did a lot of health history work. It is very time consuming as I'm sure all of you will agree. But it does put it in a different light. I will probably take more time when I fill them out for doctor's visits. Unless of course they thrown them in my file without looking at them like Prof. Costley's experience. Today we also worked on positioning again. I did a little better, but I'm pretty slow. Monica my partner for the day didn't really get a chance to practice on me becasue I took too long. My goal is to become more comfortable with that so I won't do that to anyone else... sorry Monica. Monica helped me a lot by just talking through it, kinda funny when I've got my fingers in her mouth at the same time!! I also want to continue practicing technique before class.
