REAL patient day!!

Today was real patient day. It started off a little ruff. I did show up early like my goal from last time said to but, my sister needed my help so she had to come pick me up and didn't bring me back until almost after twelve. So I didn't get a head start, but it wasn't too detrimental. I things went pretty well. I just am slow because I'm a little unsure of things. I found a lesion so I had to chart that for the first time. Probing went pretty well I wasnt too slow but I can still improve. I feel like I could go a lot faster, but I dont think itd be as acurate. I did OHI also. I did really good on my X-rays except I almost shoved the XCP down his throat on accident... oops. But the x-rays turned out well. I was pleased. After the X-rays I didn't do too much more with my patient. I finished probing had an OD check, disclosed and OHI'd (new word). I think it went pretty well I just need to be faster at the HHX and the Probing. I had a great patient! MY goal for next time is to practice maybe making a treatment plan I am slow at that too.

Patient Practice Day

Today I just sat in the chair while Tamara worked on me. I think my slowest point form last week was my probing. I'll have to get faster at that. It was nice though to sit in the chair and just watch the process. I also got to listen to everything the instructors were telling other students so that I could learn from everything that they said. My goal for next time is to be very thorough and professional and organized. I want to get the health history done befor I go to class and I also want to come about 30 early in order to restock and organize my unit. That's that!

Mock Patient Day

Wow!! I am so slow! The only thing I can think of is I need to be faster and more organized! I think I took too long on the health history and extra and intra oral exams. I also think my probing was really slow. I will have to work on that. Jenny told us to make a time limit for each thing that we do so we will be able to stay on schedule. I will have to try that. I guess the only thing to go do now is be thankful the day is over and go eat lots of food tomorrow! Happy Thanksgiving!

Emergency

Today we did emergency prepardness. It was actually very interesting to learn about what might possibly happen here and what we would do about it. We also did role play to help us act it out and remember. I think it's very important to be prepared for emergency situations. After we did that I passed off my Instrument Sharpening PE. My goal for next time is to totally review so that I can run through my appointment with Tamara smoothly (as possible). Well see ya!

Sealants!!

Today we did sealants. I thought it was pretty cool to do sealant, but it was a little hard to control the etch and sealant tip. I accidently got some on my pt!!!! I felt so bad! I hope she's okay. I need a little practice. I also need to stay out of position twelve! It's my favorite spot and I can't seem to part from it. I also wanted to just say how cool our faculty is. I think that the Professors are so nice! They are so so helpful and they always make me feel like they reallyl want me to do well, be comfortable and learn. It's so cool, I love people like that. My goal for next time is to be better prepared for the PE.!!

Air Powder Polish

Today was air powder polish! It's pretty cool how it polishes the penny so well. It will be cool to use on a person with stain. I think it is a good way to polish, but the powder seems to get everywhere. We put gauze on our tongues so it wouldn't hurt and it helped take away the taste too. The hardest part about it is using the highspeed suction!! That thing's got some power!!! I almost sucked up the gauze. My goal for next time is to be betterprepared for the PE. I need to start my instrumentation on the maxilarry next time. Those are my goals!!

Air Powder Polish

Instument Sharpening

TOday i discovered that instrument sharpening is not so easy! It's hard for me to get the right angulation down. The sheet of paper they gave us was helpful. After sharpening we practiced instrumentation on each other. I was doing great until PE time! THEN i got nervous and didn't do as well. I have a hard time fulcruming at the maxillary right side. I"m finally getting the left side down. Practice makes perfect! My goal for next time is to continiue getting the order down and I want to practice polishing.

Flouride!

Today we did flouride applications. (I needed it!) It was funny. The foam gets HUGE!! Then it got all over our faces, it was way funny. But we wiped down with a 2x2. After that I practiced some polishing. I did it with out using the foot petal first so I could just get used to hold the handpiece and moving it around the mesial and distal slightly subgingival. I think it helped. I did better this time in Posterior instrumentation too. I think today went great. I used the chin fulcrum and it helped soooo much. My goal for next time is to still practice the order of an entire appointment before class. That's that!!

Polishing!! **

Today we did polishing. This is the first time I've ever done this!! Crazy!! It's harder than I thought I have a hard time getting the speed right for the cup. It's also somewhat hard to position in in the right places. I think next time I get that out I'm going to run in along the teeth without the foot control just for practice. WE also did everything else. I felt a little out of order so I think I need to go over all the steps again one by one and write out what needs to be done with key words to trigger my memory.That's my goal for next time! Today went pretty well.
