Halloween Party!

Today is the Halloween party! How fun! I'm dressed like a cave woman. But as for today in clinic. It went okay. I got a lot of help from the TA's because I have a hard time getting into the posteriors and having a stable fulcrum. Sometimes I wish I could just do it how I want cuz it seems easier. I guess I feel like that cuz we can't use extra oral very much. Once I learn all the fulcrums it will be easier. I learned today to keep my elbow lower while doing mand anteriors by holding my instrument different. (more parrallel to the tooth) It'll take a while to get used to but it helps keep my elbow down. I will have to practice on my typodont at home so I can be better for next time. I hope we can get the camera out for next time so I can practice, I never got to practice. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! bye

Subgingival!

So today i thought was pretty frustrating at first. Working on dexter with the barnhart was so stinking hard!! It doesn't slip over the tooth and my finger's kept cramping cuz I had to push so hard. Working on peoople was way better. I found the TA's very helpful today helping me find spots to fulcrum. My goal for next class is to ask a TA if I'm grabbing too tight becaus my fingers were cramping really bad. I pretty sure that's not a good thing!
I thought today went okay and I think it will get better!!

Lights Camera action!!

TOday we learned how to use the intra oral camera. It was way freaking cool!! I loved looking at my teeth from a whole new perpective! It was fun to get pictures taken of my teeth. I can't wait to use it on someone next week. After that we did scaling... I'll admit it, I suck!! But I had Prof. Costley come and work on my pt so I could just watch. She helped me alot. Now I won't hurt my pt as much. We also did our PE. I need to practice it, I don't think i passed although I studied it last night. There are just a couple of things I forgot. My goal for next class is to practice scaling the way prof. Costley showed me!

Puttin' it all together!

Today we did pretty much everything we've learned. We started out with the extra, intra and dent. I love to get an extra oral massage... I mean exam:) It went pretty well I remembered most everything. I think I did pretty well. mY PROBING is getting better. Except I accidently went through the whole papillae and charted a 4 on the canine. OOps, emily helped me with that. My goal for next time is to study the Dental screenign PE. Over and out!

Scaling

Today it was fun to do some scaling!! We also practiced exploring to find the calculus on eachother. Although it really wasn't there. I think I did okay, I just need to adapt around the corner better and use my fulcrum. My partner did well. My goal for next time is to keep practicing with my typodont and practice the PE's that are due next week.

OHI and practice

Today we started out with charts and disclosing agents. I took another plaque index. It's pretty fun to see all the plaque that you don't think is there. Then we did probing. I think I did okay, but I'm not sure. I'm always a little hesitant to push on peoples gums. I think I'd do better on someone I didn't know and they couldn't hate me later! ha ha jk. My goal is to practice exploring on my typodont. I think that's a simple yet hard skill to master. I passed a lot of stuff today. I was proud of myself! :) bye!!!

Oral Hygiene Instruction

Today we did oral hygiene instruction after we used the disclosing agent. I was suprised how much it showed that I didn't floss that morning. It was also fun to look at my partner and see the different techniques that she would benefit from. I also got to floss which was fun. I used a threader for her lingual bar. I thought it went well. I alos got to probe. I think I did pretty well from what my partner reacted. Not too many sticks. I really like it when my partner tells me if they are being hurt. There's no better way to learn than criticism. My goal for next class is to be comfortable with the overall process of the chart... sequence and what it means etc... I think this class is going pretty well!! bye

Dental Screening

Today we did dental screening. It was fun! We got to color on charts and draw pictures! Professor Costley even visited our pod and volunteered to sit in a chair and let us learn about her teeth. I got to work on our TA. It was definatly helful because the girls in our pod had very little wrong with their teeth. My goal for next time is to keep practicing on my typodont. OH yeah and today I practiced a little probing. I feel a lot better about that than I have.

More Probing

Today we did more probing. We didn't practice on the dexter's first. I thought this time went better than last time. I still need to get a little deeper into the pocket. I have a hard time controling my instrument. But I think it helps to practice on my typodont at home. My goal for next time is to sit up straight because I always hunch over! That's bad.
