First day of patients 2nd year

I'm finally a second year!! I thought for sure I'd be awesome!!!... but I guess you don't always get what you wish for! ha ha! Actually it wasn't that bad. My paper work went pretty fast. The cleaning isn't too bad either. What was bad was the x-rays!!! I tried doing digital and they were horrible!!! I also did some conventional. They were a little better, but Iforgot the angle's that you want I need to go and review. My goal for next class is to have gone over the x-ray angles again so that I will be able to take beautiful x-rays :) My goal also for next time is to rock and roll. Rock toward the side i'm working on and rolling into the interproximal space. Prof. Alexander showed me how to enter the pocket correctly, but I forgot how. I need to ask her again. Close the angle of the scaler, enter the pocket and open it. I guess that's how... I'll still ask!

I'm a 2nd year!!

Today was the first day back! We did not do cleanings, but we got reacquainted with the clinic. It felt a little weird working in people's mouths again. I hope I didn't hurt the girl I was working on. I'm excited for the semester. I think it will be a lot of fun to have a full year working on patients. HOpefully improving my skills every day. The first skill I would like to work on is probing fast and correctly. I would also like to work on making sure I feel the calculus before I remove it so I can be confident that it is gone. I am excited to learn from the faculty here. That's all for today!! Welcome back!!

sister sealants

Today I did sealants on my sister. I jsut did one because she needed to go to class. SHe needed more though. Next year she will have to come in and get some more. I think I felt better doing sealants this time around. I was more steady with the etch. My goal for this afternoon is to be fast wiht my patient. I have a lot to do. I will do digital xrays.

Final of my class 2

TOday I did the final two quad's of my class 2 exam patient. It went pretty well. It went better than last time. She seemed to have less of a problem getting numb. She was funny. SHe somehow found a piece of calculus?? She was facinated by it. She got some 2X2's to wrap it up and take it home. I gave her some literature to read because she was spanish speaking I could not tell her. I also cleaned her daughter's teeth. She was afraid at first, almost crying. But then we had so much fun. She was laughing the whole time. Luckily she spoke english so she wouldn't be as afraid when I talked to her. My goal for next time is to be fast on my class 2. She is supposedly a full mouth class 2. I really hope she is. I will die if she's not. I need to be fast. I need to take BWX and clean her full mouth, finish probing. That is a lot to do. I wish Antonio could have come in I was done with his xrays, OD etc..

Crazy crazy

SO today My patient cancelled. This is the second time he cancelled. HE was scheduled for this morning and afternoon. He was my class three 4 quads. I don't know why things are just not going right. My patients keep cancelling. I have not had a real patient come in at their scheduled time for about two weeks now. It is really frustrating. I am trying to find a patient for this afternoon but I am not having any luck. TOday I helped laurie and Monica do their sealant and APP PE. At least I got to do that along with them. But it took a while because in between I was trying to get a pt for this afternoon with Lily's help. I am just really frustrated because if things would have been going right I would have gotten an A++ in this class. But I am in danger of not passing. My other pt's child is sick so she cna't come either. My goal for next time is to get a person in my chair and clean them. What ever it takes!!!!

SO today was so long. I came in this morning to do screening's. I got really good at practicing taking blood pressure. But I did qet three quads of a two and one of a three! So now I'm just short three quads of a three. But I have not cleaned them yet. I was hoping and praying for four quads of a three today. I just don't see how I"m going to get my requirments done. Pretty much same story as last time. My goal for next time is to... make sure my pt get's a phys consult and clean him really fast. I think I can do it. Ireally hope he doesn't need anesthesia. So anyways over and out!

no pt again!!!

Today my pt was sick. But since she is spanish speaking she called midtown and i did not get the message until she had not shown up about fifteen minutes into clinic. i am so frustrated with this right now. I have been planning and planning in order to get all my requirements done. But it is not going to work if I can't get my patients to come in. I think I've done a really good job this semester at working with what I have and getting patients and getting faster etc... but when pt's are late, dont show etc... it really takes away from my plan. I'm just afraid that my grade will reflect the "chance" of this semester... not what I've really worked for. My goal for next time is to call my patients the day before and make sure they're coming in. (for sure do it not that I haven't been doing it) and to be quick and thorough but also make a time schedule for each day that I need to stick to in order to complete what I want to get done that day.

More screenings

So i got a patient to come in for a screening. But she does not have bone loss. SHe is a very healthy lady :) I do not know what to do with her I would feel bad if I couldnt clean her. I will probably give her to Shandee. Or maybe trade her with someone since her x-rays are done. I did not get to her OD. Lucky for me I learned how to do a phys consult. I learned a lot but didn't get closer to finishing my requirements. My goal for next time is to do a good, thorough, organized, fast job of maricela. I also need to call her to see how her cold sore is. Adios!

screening disasters!!

TOday was the craziest day of my life. my patient had a cold sore so I had to call my list of prospective patients so come in. SO I finally got my sister to come in. I did her whole appoinment and finished cleaning, but I missed a ton of spots for my exam! I do perfect almost on other 1B's!! So that was horrible then I stayed for afternoon to do screenings... both my patients cancelled. I was sad so I went to track practice. I really can see myself not being able to finish my requirements with the way things are going!! goal for next time... find a patient!

class 5

I was hoping my pt would be a class two but as always luck is not on my side. I"m glad she does not have a dirty mouth. I think I need to do a better job on charting the dent portion. recession and mod mol dob's etc.. My goal for next time is to do a good job on dent

class 2

Today I had a class two. It was hard. I mosty because I have a hard time feeling the calculus with my explorer. I THink I did okay except that I went way long because my patient had a hard time pain control wise. She was totally numb. But I'm sure since she did not speak english it was difficult for her to trust someone who could not understand her. I need to get a better sequence down and find ways to better access the areas I"m workign on. I feel like I can never see. Maybe I will buy some loops. My goal for next time is to be in better positions. Prof. Costley helped me a lot I really appreciated it.
